Geometric essentials only: lines, rects and circles. Presentation attributes sit on each symbol so a glyph is correct wherever it is inlined; .hyx-icon only sets the box. Inline this file once per document, then reference a symbol by id from a use element inside an svg.hyx-icon. A markup example is deliberately omitted: a literal closing svg tag in this file would break any tool that slices the sprite by searching for one. aperture is six blades, echoing the mark; phone is a handheld device; move replaces move-3d. FGS Dong Zen Temple

A temple in Jenjarom, Selangor. We scanned it, and the tour is open to anyone — walk it in the browser.

The columned portico in front of the main hall.

About this project

This is Dong Zen during its Peace Lantern Festival and Flower Art Exhibition — 平安灯会暨花艺展 — which the temple sets up only over Chinese New Year.

We captured it four years running, 2021 through 2024. It began during the movement control order, when nobody could travel to see it, and the tour was how the festival could still be walked. The lanterns are built new each year, so each capture is a record of its own year. The one linked here is 2024, and the earlier ones are reachable from inside it — 2023 from 2024, and 2022 from 2023.

It goes indoors as well as out — the mountain gate, the Buddhist college archway, the Thirty-Three Avalokitesvara street, the Lumbini garden and the eco-farm, and the halls and galleries behind them.

Where it appears

A screenshot of Oriental Daily News: the 東方ONLINE masthead and its navigation, then a night photograph of the temple's ox-year lantern with monastics and students in front of it, then the headline 「东禅寺平安灯会 或转为VR线上赏」 dated 10 January 2021.

The temple links this tour from its own site. The move online was covered at the time.

More of the space

Every photograph on this page is a frame from the tour itself, reprojected from the original panorama.

A gravel garden with clipped pines, under the lanterns along the walkway.
The library, and its round stack of bound volumes.
